The Best Places to Enjoy Songkran in Bangkok – A Wet and Wild Celebration Awaits!

Songkran, Thailand’s traditional New Year celebration in April, is the country’s biggest and most exciting festival. Originally about purification and fresh starts, it now also means epic water fights and non-stop fun! If you are in Bangkok during Songkran, here’s where to enjoy the most unforgettable celebrations.

Khaosan Road

First up is Khaosan Road, which is pretty much Songkran central as the entire street transforms into a massive, non-stop water fight. The bars stay open, the DJs blast music from plastic-covered booths, and the street parties are legendary. Find Khaosan accommodation in the area at properties like Tinidee Trendy Bangkok Khaosan so you can join the madness, dry off, and jump right back in!

Silom

Silom, especially the Patpong area, is another top spot for Songkran celebrations. Here, you will see crowds armed with Super Soakers and even the occasional fire truck hosing people down. Street vendors sell water guns, snacks, and plenty of cold beers to keep the energy up. Pro tip; head to the BTS skywalk above the street if you want to view the action and stay dry, but fair warning… some people aim high!

Music Festivals

Relatively new additions, Songkran music festivals in Bangkok bring together top international DJs, incredible stages, and visitors from around the world. Two of the most popular are the SIAM Songkran Music Festival (Bravo BKK Arena area) and the S2O Songkran Music Festival (Rajamangala National Stadium). After a day of water fights, dancing to heart-pounding beats is an experience like no other!

Sanam Luang

Songkran is also a time for cultural traditions. If you want to experience the festival’s spiritual side, head to Sanam Luang (opposite the Grand Palace); on the first day of Songkran, you can watch a parade where people sprinkle water on a Buddha image for blessings. You will also find traditional Thai performances with Muay Thai, music, or shadow puppetry, offering a different but equally memorable time.
