Navigating Transport in Bangkok - The Art Of City Travel

Discover the streets and waters of Thailand’s capital, with a guide to navigating transport around Bangkok. From fast sky trains to scenic river ferries, master the art of city travel and enjoy a seamless holiday.

BTS Skytrain

One of the best ways to escape the city’s traffic is on the new and sleek Skytrain, Bangkok’s fastest public transport. Station signage and tickets are also available in English, which includes access to the Rabbit Pass—a reusable ticket that is exclusive to Skytrains. Keep in mind that these bullet trains only operate in a select few neighbourhoods.

MRT

The metro system is cheap, with trains running frequently. Although the MRT uses different tickets and passes, these underground trains are also accessible to tourists, offering another alternative to the notorious traffic above ground.

Chao Phraya Ferries

For a more scenic journey around Bangkok, consider hopping on one of the many ferries along the Chao Phraya River. Operating under a coloured flag system, there are several piers in every waterfront neighbourhood, with easy access to shops in Chinatown, hotels in Khaosan, the Grand Palace complex and more. For example, for guests at accommodations like Tinidee Trendy Khaosan Bangkok, the closest ferry terminal is only a 5-minute walk away.

Taxi

Although susceptible to traffic, metered taxis are a great way to connect with the local community and gain insight into underrated locations, with the added benefit of cheap fares. However, be sure to check if the meter is working before getting in, or use a ride-hailing app like Grab for fixed prices.
