Experiencing Bangkok’s Floating Markets: A Glimpse of Local Life and Culture

Bangkok’s floating markets are some of the most intriguing attractions you’ll find in the city. Filled with the buzz of vendors and customers, and rows of colourful boats that line the waterways, these traditional markets are where you’ll find the authenticity of everyday life in Bangkok.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Although it is located outside of Bangkok, this market is worth the trip because of its numerous long-tailed boats and lively atmosphere as vendors sell some of the freshest fruits and vegetables.

Taling Chan Floating Market

If you don’t want to venture too far from your hotel and its Bangkok deluxe room, this floating market is only 12 kilometres from downtown Bangkok. It is known for its authenticity which you can experience on a boat ride along the canal, or while sampling some of the delicious local seafood.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

This medium-sized market is even closer to the city and is a convenient stop if you’re at nearby hotels like Tinidee Trendy Khaosan. Set up along a fairly narrow canal, a large part of the market is atop a platform over the water. But you’ll still find several floating boats on which many delicious dishes are prepared!

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market

This floating market is known for its scenic surroundings due to its location in an unusual spot of the river called the ‘Green Lung of Bangkok’. The market exudes an authentic atmosphere, with several boats selling traditional food, unusual fruits and sweets.
